At the moment, some schools are prohibiting accepted freshman from deferring matriculation. Only sophomores and above are permitted a deferral, meaning they already have skin in the game. Freshman who do not enroll in required on-campus classes must re-apply for next year, competing with newly graduating HS seniors, with no guarantees.
